Pakistan Election 2013

A new milestone is going to be achieved in era of Politics of Pakistan. Pakistan Election 2013 is expected in first quarter of May.  The electoral body is responsible for its scheduling and nominations for candidates to elect MPs. This will be the 14th National assembly of the Parliament of Islamic Republic of Pakistan. Elections have to be held within 60 days of Parliament dissolution.  The deadline date is 17th of May 2013.

13th National Assembly of Parliament holds the leader Prime Minister from a political party called Pakistan People’s Party. Most of the MNAs sitting in assembly belong to PPP. It has happened first time in the history of Pakistan that 13th National Assembly completed its electoral period of 5 years.

Pakistan has a demographic parliamentary system it has a constitution. Pakistan General Election is the part of constitution of Islamic Republic of Pakistan.

Constitution defines the eligibility of candidate to participate in the election. He has to be truthful and honest. The depth of these clauses which are 62, 63 and 218 describes in detail about the character of going to be elected representative of Government of Pakistan. Constitution reserves 70 seats for women and religious minorities. A political party participating in elections must win 172 seats or 51% of total seats to get majority in National Assembly of Pakistan. Usually coalition parties or free candidates join the winning party and form the government for next 5 years of constitutional period.

Reforms by Election Commission of Pakistan

Election commission of Pakistan has computerized the voting lists and removed 35 million bogus voters. Anyone can find out his enrollment through SMS sending on 8300 Inquiry Number. In December 2012 Supreme Court of Pakistan ordered door to door verification of voters under the security of Pakistan Army in Karachi. Now 17th January 2013, Election Commission of Pakistan ECP started door to door verification of voters.

Political Parties

There are two most famous parties struggling to rule Pakistan for the last 41 years. Pakistan Muslim League and Pakistan People’s Party haven been ruling Pakistan one after one and encountered dictatorship and pre-elections. Now another emerging party which is called Pakistan Tehreek e Insaf is also favorite for youth. Pakistan People’s Party is headed by Current President of Pakistan, Asif Ali Zardari, Chairman of Pakistan Muslim League (N) is chaired by Mr. Nawaz Sharif and Leader of Tehreek e Insaaf is former cricketer Imran Khan. There are several more parties involved in politics of Pakistan which usually fell at opposition side or make coalition government.

Election is the survival of democracy. Being a democratic muslim country Pakistan’s general elections are important this year because different groups of people have different perception for the upcoming Pakistan election 2013.
